How Much Does a Magician Cost in Brisbane? (2026 Guide)
Search for a magician in Brisbane and you will see quotes from $300 to well over $3,000. Same trade, same city, wildly different numbers. So which one is the real price?
Both can be. This guide covers what Brisbane magicians actually charge, why the gap is so wide, and exactly what you get at my end of it. I’m Jason Gray. I have performed at more than 1000 events over more than ten years, and “how much do you charge?” is the question I get asked most.
The short answer
In Brisbane, published rates run from roughly $400 to $800 for an hour of close up magic, up to $1,000 to $2,000 for a short stage show. My bookings start from $1,000 ex GST in off-peak periods and from $1,500 ex GST in peak periods, with travel from the Gold Coast included.
Brisbane magician prices at a glance
| Format | Typical published Brisbane range |
|---|---|
| Close up or roving magic, 1 hour | $400 to $800 |
| Close up or roving magic, 2 hours | $700 to $1,400 |
| Stage show, 20 to 30 minutes | $1,000 to $2,000 |
| Trade show magic, per day | $1,200 to $2,500 |
| Jason Gray (close up, roving or stage) | From $1,000 ex GST off-peak, from $1,500 ex GST peak, travel included |
Ranges are from Entertainment Now’s published Brisbane price guide, checked in October 2026. Entertainer marketplaces also list magicians advertising “from $300”. If you see a number that low, check what it includes before you compare it with anything else.
Why quotes vary so much
“Magician” covers very different jobs. Here is what actually moves the number:
-
Experience. Someone three months into the trade and someone with a decade of corporate galas, weddings and conferences are not selling the same thing, even if both say “close up magic”.
-
How long you want them. Longer bookings reach more guests and give the magic time to land in the right moments, so they cost more.
-
The format. Close up and roving magic moves through your guests. A stage show gathers the room around one performance and needs space, sound and lighting. They are different builds.
-
Crowd size. Fifteen friends at a party and 300 delegates at a conference need different amounts of time and planning.
-
The date. A Saturday night in December is not the same as a Tuesday in March. More on that below.
-
What is extra. Some quotes add travel, parking, overtime or a deposit on top. Compare the final figure, not the headline.
Why I charge from $1,000, and what you get
I am not the cheapest magician in Brisbane, and I don’t try to be. Here is what sits behind the price:
-
A track record you can check. As seen on Australia’s Got Talent, more than 1000 events and more than 200 five-star Google reviews that you can read yourself.
-
Someone who fits your event. I read the room and work around your run sheet, speeches, entrances and service included, instead of asking you to rearrange the night.
-
Travel is included. Brisbane is a drive from the Gold Coast. That is built into the price, not added to the bill.
Here is what clients say:
The feedback from our conference survey rated him 5/5 from every attendee which is unheard of for our lot!!!
Greg Dwyer, national sales conference in Brisbane, Google review
He arrived right on time and struck the perfect balance between being genuinely funny and incredibly talented, without ever feeling awkward or over-the-top.
Sinéad O’Sullivan, office event, Google review
If you are running a small, casual get-together on a tight budget, a lower quote may suit you well, and I would rather tell you that than oversell it. But if the event matters, whether that is a client function, a wedding or a milestone you only get once, the person you book becomes part of how it feels.
What counts as peak, and why it costs more
Peak means the dates everyone wants: peak wedding dates, the Christmas and EOFY party season and popular Friday and Saturday nights. I can only be in one place on a Saturday in December, and demand is highest then, so those dates start from $1,500 ex GST. Quieter dates start from $1,000 ex GST.
The practical effect is that your date matters more than almost anything else on the quote. If you have flexibility, ask what an off-peak date would look like.
What it costs for typical Brisbane events
Client drinks, a launch or an EOFY function in the CBD or South Bank. EOFY and Christmas weeks are peak periods, so those functions start from $1,500 ex GST. A weeknight function in a quieter month starts from $1,000 ex GST. I usually recommend roving close up magic where guests are standing and networking. See corporate magic in Brisbane.
A wedding around New Farm, Teneriffe or the river. Peak wedding dates book first. Most couples book a cocktail hour while photos are taken. The wedding magician cost guide explains cocktail hour versus table to table, and there is more on wedding magic in Brisbane.
A milestone birthday or engagement party at home. Close up magic through the evening, no stage needed. Starts from $1,000 ex GST off-peak, or $1,500 ex GST if the date is a peak one. See party magician Brisbane and close up magician Brisbane.
How to get more from your budget
You can’t haggle a performer into being better, but you can make sure the money goes further:
-
Be flexible on the date. The gap between off-peak and peak is $500. If you can move, ask.
-
Match the format to the moment. If your goal is mingling, close up or roving magic is usually the right tool. A stage show costs more and only suits a seated audience.
-
Book early. Early booking protects your date, which matters most in peak season. See how far in advance to book a magician.
-
Send a clear brief. Date, venue, guest numbers and a rough timeline let me recommend what you need, not a generic package.
What a good quote includes
When you compare quotes, each one should state:
-
How long the performance runs
-
The format: close up, roving or stage
-
Whether travel is included or extra
-
Whether the date is charged as peak
-
Whether the price includes GST (mine are ex GST)
-
Deposit and payment terms
-
What happens if the event runs over
-
A wet-weather plan if you are on a rooftop, deck or by the river
If a quote is vague on any of these, ask before you book, not after.
Get an accurate Brisbane quote
Send your date, the venue or suburb, roughly how many guests are coming and a rough timeline. I will recommend a format and give you a specific number, not a range that doesn’t help you plan. If you are new to booking entertainment, the guide to how to hire a magician walks through the whole process, and magician Brisbane has the local detail. Weighing other areas? Here is the Gold Coast cost guide.
How this guide was put together: market ranges come from Entertainment Now’s published Brisbane price guide (October 2026). Client quotes are verbatim Google reviews. My own prices are current as of the date above and are always confirmed in your written quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a close up magician in Brisbane?
Published Brisbane rates run from about $400 to $800 for an hour of close up magic and $700 to $1,400 for two hours. My close up and roving bookings start from $1,000 ex GST off-peak and from $1,500 ex GST in peak periods, with travel included.
How much does a magician cost for a wedding in Brisbane?
Peak wedding dates start from $1,500 ex GST and other dates start from $1,000 ex GST. The wedding magician cost guide explains the difference between a cocktail hour booking and table-to-table magic.
Why do Brisbane magician prices vary so much?
Experience, booking length, format, crowd size, date and extras such as travel all change the number. A short, low quote and a longer booking with an experienced performer on a peak date are very different jobs.
Is travel to Brisbane included in your price?
Yes. Travel from the Gold Coast to Brisbane is included in the price I quote, so there is no separate travel charge.
Do your prices include GST?
No. All of my prices are quoted ex GST.
How far in advance should I book a magician in Brisbane?
Four to eight weeks is comfortable for most events. Peak wedding dates and Christmas and EOFY parties go much earlier, so check availability as soon as you have a date.
